This is the last part in the 4 part short series in finding your true character and how it is linked closely to the core of one’s success. The concept of starting with “the end in mind” by Mr. Stephen Covey  has been mostly inspirational for these short articles.
So here is the fourth and final question you should ask yourself as you are present and peeking in during  your own Eulogy as you are remembered by your community and the World around you.
Here is mine:
1. HE was compassionate.
2. He was truly a Human being.
3. He was giving (Spiritually, financially, and with his time)
4. He touched people positively, DEEPLY and emotionally.
5. He warmed people’s hearts.
6. He always responded to communication sent to him.
7. He helped make life a little better for anyone he came in contact with.
HOW WOULD YOU ANSWER THAT QUESTION? The answers lead you to the legacy you should, if you choose, to leave behind when you are gone but more importantly will give you the community, worldly goals you set.  Then and only then will you have a way to set your plans into action.  Without the end in mind there is no beginning.

I am continuing on about my thoughts on finding your true character and  how it is core of one’s success. I do so by giving credit to Mr. Stephen Covey (may he rest in peace), as this is mostly inspired by reading his books and the concept of starting with “the end in mind”
So here is the third question you should ask yourself as you are sitting in listening to your Eulogy as it is read by your Coworkers and Professional Associates.
How Would you like to be remembered by your COWORKERS/PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATES?
Here is mine:
1. HE was energetic, dedicated and excited about what he did.
2. He was a perfectionist but knew when to accept reality!
3. He cared about teaching others.
4. He also cared about the well-being of his coworkers, clients and patients.
5. He was Ethical and fair and never took advantage of anyone.
6. He never undercut or undermined his fellow coworkers no matter how much he disagreed with them.
7. He was self-made and never extended his hand for a favor or a handout.
HOW WOULD YOU ANSWER THAT QUESTION? How would you change the way you conduct yourself after reading the answers to those questions?

True Friend

As promised here is part of my thoughts on finding your true character and  how it is core of one’s success. I do so by giving credit to Mr. Stephen Covey, as this is mostly inspired by reading his books and the concept of starting with “the end in mind”
So here is the second question, when your Eulogy is read How would you like to be remembered by your FRIENDS?  You must be brutally honest with yourself.
Here is mine:
1. A friend who listened, was there when I was at my worst and my best.
2. He helped me whenever I needed him.
3. He knew when to give me space when I needed but…….
4. He was always a phone call away.
5. He truly cared about and genuinely was interested in what was and is important in my life…..
6. Yet when he did not agree with me and my choices he was not afraid to be direct but he was compassionate in listening to my side of the story.
7. His faith in my abilities, sometimes unknown to me, was like having an extra set of wings when I felt I was in a free fall!
8. He had an odd but very effective way of getting me to see a solution that was in front of me.
9. He was like a brother whom I would be proud to call my real, flesh-and-blood brother.
HOW WOULD YOU ANSWER THAT QUESTION?

The Button Story

P.E.R.S.E.K.A. Personal Education Restoring Self Empowerment through Knowledge and Action discusses how buttoning a shirt can teach us about goals and self confidence.

I admit that the title seems quite trivial but it will be worth reading as it will open your mind to a new way of looking at your own life.

Why would I be obsessing over buttoning a shirt button? Afterall, I could devote more time and effort to teach the latest and greatest technologies in educating, advancing and motivating my audience to further their success. But, I choose to look beyond the surface of what we take for granted.

Here it goes:  for the past 6 years I have buttoned my son’s shirts for him. After each changing, when he learned how to use the restroom, when he had to get ready to go school, when he needed to change when he played outside and got dirty and muddy. I pushed those pesky buttons through the holes that, I swear, the shirt manufacturers intentionally made so small that not only a child but the parents would not be able to push through!

In all these years, I would verbally tell my son what I was doing. And as he learned to speak he would repeat it with me …..”and now I button up your shirt like this… see?” he would say it was a fact, a law of nature, a never changing cosmic occurrence. Accepted, never questioned and always there like clockwork!

A week ago, out of habit I started to help him button his shirt where suddenly he, in a confident voice, said to me: ” Dad, I am doing it by myself now!” One can imagine the joy of a parent, a teacher or a coach when the person whom they have been teaching says to them “I got this, you need not teach me anymore!” I was ecstatic.

When I analyzed this seemingly simple exchange I realized that reinforcement of an idea, a task or goal alone does not bring it into fruition. The willingness of the person and the time it takes for one to acquire the confidence and skill brings about that change.

As a father, I was teaching a skill and at each step I would take away a step or intentionally(sometimes unintentionally) forget a step but my son was there each step of the way reminding me to get it right. Sometimes he would try to take over from me and fail, get frustrated even throw a tantrum but he always looked up and asked for help. Until he realized that he can do it.  And do it better and faster than I.  Most importantly, he felt confident in accomplishing such a simple task.

It is about self confidence, isn’t it? It is about having a specific goal that does not change yet acquiring experience along the way by making correct strides, sometimes mistakes, yet never internalizing the steps backwards as personal and more as events to learn from. Along the way, also learning to ask for help and guidance and realizing that this is a sign of strength not weakness.  In synergy life expands and thrives.

With each mini success, self confidence is boosted while the focus always stays on the end result. Even if it means buttoning a shirt, or starting a new business, going for higher education or asking for a promotion in one’s career.

I hope this has been informative and inspiring despite its simplicity.

Start at the end (part 1) Remembered by Family

I have been reading extensively lately about character and how it is core of one’s success. After all, my quest has always been about self empowerment and how it leads to personal success.  I came across a passage that affected me deeply written by Stephen Covey.  To paraphrase, he suggested starting with “the end in mind” and piece together the path to get to the end by which you would like to be remembered.
So here is the first question, without getting too morbid,  when your Eulogy is read How would you like to be remembered by your FAMILY?  To answer this you must be truly honest with yourself and not have any distractions.  You get to this after you have found out what your purpose on this Earth really is, but that another matter which I will discuss later. For now concentrate on this visual,  your son(daughter) or your (wife/husband), maybe your mother (father) or just a loved one from your family whom you respect and would value his or her speaking about you is standing up to give a speech about YOU after you have passed on for whatever reason.   What would you like to hear about yourself if you were sitting in the audience?
Here is mine:
“He was a Husband/Son/father who was there When I needed Him.”
“He was and taught me to be kind, caring, giving, to love and choose to Love over all else.”
“He helped me become who I wanted to be not who he wanted me to be.”
“He taught me to be disciplined and focused in anything I set my mind to do.”
“He cared about my views, opinions, my autonomy, and was compassionate and respectful even if he disagreed with me.”

How does this help us achieve success? be ready for the other 3 part as I will reveal more about the design behind the madness!

I love mistakes.

Featured

Yes, you read it right. It is not a misprint. Let me explain:

20110628-045622.jpg

I love Mistakes

We all want things to be perfect. We get into our car and drive from our home to a destination that we drive to everyday. To us it is a routine, going from point A to point B. In our mind it might even be a straight shot, a seemingly perfect line.

But, it could not be further from the truth. Although it may seem that way no two days are the same. Some days it takes longer, other times we don’t even understand how we got there so fast. We never analyze how different the drive was and whether or not any thing changed or even if there were any mistakes.

We simply adjusted. In reality it was most likely a very jagged path we took, we may even have taken a back road once that we never took before but we still got there. Sometimes a back road that took longer but we kept moving. And we saw a new path that taught us something along the way.

Even a blocked path that forced us to do a U turn and inside our head say the infamous line by Homer Simpson, “D’Oh.” That mistake gave us feedback. Gave us something new. A lesson in awareness, well, more self-awareness.

Such is real life, mistakes are really only opportunities to learn and grow, a chance for self-improvement and success.

As long as we have the destination in focus we’ll get there and we should be thankful for mistakes because they remind us that it may be nerve wracking to have a “D’oh” moment but it can be fun and it will serve us well into the future. Being perfect all the time is boring and down right sets us up for failure as we can do no wrong– truly, that’s no way to live. Certainly no way to succeed!

So, I say with confidence: “I Love mistakes!”

That’s part of the path to self-development. Another important part is having a partner or a coach that helps us see the positives in the mistakes and learning lessons. Sometimes, that’s the missing part that keeps us on task, someone who keeps us accountable yet encourages us along the way. I certainly have benefited immensely from many coaches in my life and give credit to their guidance and patience with me!

Dragging Anchor Perseka site for Self improvement and Personal Development

The title says it all.  We all have experiences (bad and good) in our past that linger in and anchor in our souls.  Some are too painful to even bring back up.  Some are easy to face and analyze.  Some involve people.  Others involve situations we got ourselves into.

In my experience, letting things get bottled up for years will affect one’s performance in every aspect of life.  First step is to become fully aware of this anchor that drags, kind of like a ship anchor getting stuck in the sludge and garbage and dragging it along with the ship. And be completely honest about it.  No sense lying to yourself. Face it,  it was that lying to yourself that got you to this uncomfortable place already! I find that writing this down helps, and if there is someone or people who are directly or indirectly involved in making you feel this way include their name too.

Then, ask yourself what you are feeling? Is it anger?  Or sorrow? Maybe it is guilt? Name your emotion! And find out what, who, where compels you to feel this way.  Most of the time it is just YOU and your perception, or it may be a certain person.

Next is the importance of acknowledging the fact that you are entitled to feel what you feel. Grant yourself that and be comfortable with giving yourself the right to feel what you are feeling.  A good friend of mine taught me that.

Then, you need to confront that feeling through communication.   It may involve writing something to the person who ignites that feeling and as calmly as you can let them know that you are feeling that way.  Or it may be that you need to analyze your own perceptions and change an environment that you have created for yourself that needs changing.

I can not emphasize communication enough.  If the person who was the instigator of those feelings does not acknowledge your right to feel what you are feeling after several communications then you have done all you can and this allows you to let go of the feeling that has weighted you down.  And therein lies the absolute gem:

letting go

It is easy to hold onto something that gives you a purpose to keep yourself occupied but you have no idea what letting go allows you to do.   It is simply the key paving your way to your successful future!

Of course, there is so much more to this than what I have described here and I plan to write more about it.  I hope this opens up a way for you to have an internal dialogue to help you sort and organize some of your own thoughts.

I should add that many stumbling blocks require consultation with others who are impartial such as personal coaches as well as medical professionals in case there are deeper issues that need to be dealt with.  Remember, there is always help you just have to make a decision to seek it!

Surround yourself with Positive People

I get up in the morning and think about how I can help myself become a better person. How can I become more successful with this barrage of bad news raining down on me and everyone around me everyday, needless to say, actual rain too!

It takes effort, darn it!  It takes effort to find a positive in a negative.  Then certain events pile it on.  For example, yesterday, I felt as though I had failed as a father since I did not act fast enough to catch my son from slipping and bumping his head against the tub.  He had a nice bruise, but he forgot about it in 5 minutes.  Me, I am still carrying the guilt a little bit.

If it was not for a handfulof wonderful people– positive people (friends, family and even some virtual friends from facebook) I would have still felt the negativity.  I am always the person who sees the positive in everything. I even teach that to people but I had to dig a little more. Those positive souls instantly lifted me out of my self-made shell.  And I did not look back!

Which brings me to my point.

Surround yourself with positive people.  Whether it has to do with your family life, business, finding a career, reconnecting loose ends in your own past or anything that will help you become more successful. It takes just as much effort and energy, if not more to feel negative about something as it does to be positive.  Then why don’t we choose the positive? You just have to look and awaken that energy within you, those positive sparks around you sure help along the way.

I dabble in art and cartoons from time to time, I thought my little doodle-cartoon was quite befitting of this post!

The Learners versus the Learned

Featured

Learning into Action Personal development Perseka LLC

Learning into Action, Personal development Perseka LLC

We are in a time of change.  I am not talking about politics nor do I speak of the environment.  Although, that is certainly on everyone’s mind. I am talking more about the people and how they are thinking.  Well, more so about what they are learning.

We always hear the importance of education.  “Our children’s education is priority number 1!” I hear the authorities  say. They emphasize higher education and so forth.  But I really want to drive one very important point that really understand education we need to understand the word itself and what it entails:

The word education is derived from educare (Latin) “bring up”, which is related to educere “bring out”, “bring forth what is within”, “bring out potential” and ducere, “to lead”. (from Wikipedia)

To bring out!

So we can ram ideas into the brains of our youth but how can we be certain that they are able to “bring it out?”

We need to consider helping our youth and even the elderly by teaching them “how” to really learn.  And “how” to have a deep understanding of what they want to know.  And there lies the most important point:  “what they want to know.” When someone wants something they will put into motion their actions to do it, to learn how to get it but they take action! Along the way they make mistakes and that’s how they bring out what they really know, by doing it!

There are so many In the arena of success there are two kinds of people: those who learn and learn but never put what they learn into motion and then there are those who learn and continue to learn but they use and try and bring out what they learn.

I am reminded of Eric Hoffer’s quote:

“In a time of drastic change it is the learners who inherit the future. The learned usually find themselves equipped to live in a world that no longer exists.”

Who do we want to be?

Creative Thought works for me: Step 1 of 7

Featured

Creative Thought

Creative Thought

As a scientist I have always believed in laws.  Laws of Thermodynamics, I was living by them and still do.  I always wondered about the connection between physical laws and what happens in our spiritual thoughts.  was there a connection?  I began to study (and I do everyday) not just science but different faith-based systems, never coming to a satisfactory answer that satiates my hunger for the unknown.

I began digging deeper.  There must be connection between what we imagine and think and how it becomes something physical. Just as a gas in nature is not visible yet subjected to physical changes of pressure and temperature it can become a solid physical substance. I have always accepted the fact that the energy in the universe is constantly changing from one form to another. I see it everyday before my eyes.   It is neither created  nor destroyed (1st law of Thermodynamics)but it is constantly changing, like a melodic motion seen in waves in the ocean.

So, I asked this question:  Can a THOUGHT be like an invisible form of a substance? And, can it transform into a solid form if subjected or focused (much like pressure)? And in theory, any thought we have, that we creatively conjure up, when focused will come into fruition.

The key here is creative THOUGHT and secondly constant FOCUS.  Back to the scientific analogy, if gas vapor is not pressured it will not turn into a liquid form and consequently, that liquid will not become a solid (i.e. Ice).

So what are we to do as free thinking human beings?

This is the single most important question we ask ourselves when we are faced with the future of our lives.

We can choose to allow forces of nature create our reality (outside influences, what others say, what happens in the world) or we can have a creative thought of what we want to become and “stick” to it with all of our energy, focused and positively charged emotions.

That separates the extraordinary from the rest.

This idea is not new, it has been studied and proven many times over.  It has been given names and titles by different scientists, philosophers, authors, gurus and motivational thinkers.  It is in every religion in the world.  It is the common thread, yet people fight over the semantics. Instead of burning their energy focusing on their creative thought they focus it on fighting with others. And, the outcome is war and hate and destruction. There must be a better way.

I personally call it CREATIVE THOUGHT.  That definition works for me and I am not going to argue with a scientist, religious scholar or a  self-help guru over nuance. I respect each person’s personal autonomy in what they choose to believe. It is better that way.

Passion and Persistence

Don't forget the Passion

Persistence leads to movement

Another world cup analogy(seems befitting!): Germany vs. Spain was a clear example of two concepts, one showed that having all the skills yet forgetting to bring the emotion and passion leads to no result. It’s like sitting on a bicycle but not using the pedals–naturally the result is no movement.

Two, hitting road blocks and walls should not discourage one as persistence and creative ways to get results wins. Spain demonstrated that very well with creative passing and an unconventional goal, by their standards.

Applying these two principles will help you in life too!

I wish you passion, persistence, success and love.

Blame, Blame, Stop Blaming others for your results!

Featured

"Blame" Copyright by Perseka 2010 Kaveh Adel

Why blame other when you don't take responsibility?

Let’s face it: most of the time when something goes wrong the first thing we do is look for someone(usually not ourselves) or something to BLAME!

I suggest a different way to approach this dilemma. Here it goes:

All things happen because there was a thought that preceded a series of actions that gave a result.  Thoughts are created by us, our ideas. We act on them and we get the results. If things go well, we are happy and say to ourselves: “I did that” but when things go horribly wrong we say: ” It was so and so’s fault!”  Why is it that we take responsibility for good things and relinquish it, blame someone else,  when the opposite happens? Because it’s the easy way out.

In a way we, we create a mental prison for ourselves by not taking FULL responsibility for the results that we got! and we sit there cycling through our own convoluted mental labyrinth of blame! And we become more angry at someone or something that we have no control over(economy, war, the guy who cut you off on the road…etc.)  This self-imposed mental pressure kills a person literally from inside out.

I have a suggestion(of course after I read an article by Bob Proctor-a great mentor):

Take responsibility for how you FEEL about what you accomplish(your results.)

It is choice. Simply, you can say ” I did this.” Good or bad, I did it. Or, you can cycle back into the blame game. If your results were bad it is most likely due to the thought that you started out with. Deep down you may have not been a 100% clear about what you really wanted.  I mean 100% clear–having a “fuzzy” idea does not cut it! Because “fuzzy” goals or ideas bring about “fuzzy” results!

When you take responsibility you gain control of your life and refuse to allow other people and circumstances control you.

You become powerful!

Sure, you might hit a few snags along the way but if you have confidence in what you really want you will find a way to make it happen. truly, if you have a solid idea and you have passion, the way to your results finds itself, you just have to action toward your goal and believe! wishing it alone doesn’t make it true! Step by step each result builds on another and you may take a small step back and tweak things, then ramp it up and make a huge leap…… but it starts with taking responsibility and eliminating the word and thought BLAME from your vocabulary!  Things happen and how we choose to look at them, our perspective, makes the difference.

I’ll leave you with a quote from George Bernard Shaw:

“…..The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and, if they can’t find them, they make them.”

I wish you success, confidence and love.

Calmness of Thoughts

Featured

Calmness…….

Think about it for a second.  What does it really mean to you?

I personally look at it this way:  Everyday I am exposed to millions of images, sounds, thoughts.  I am  bombarded.  If I would let every single one of those outside items affect me, or form my actions I would be a zombie. I have no internal creativity as a result because outside forces, people, things suck my energy out and I unwittingly let it happen!

The truth is, most of us are that way.  Most of us let that be the norm.  Most of us are O.K. with it. Truly, deep inside are we really calm? Are we really clear about what we want?

I see everyday that individuals, even groups of people start with and focus on the results (most of the time failures happening as a result of external forces) which cause thoughts (negative ones) that produce feelings (of failure) that translate into actions (filled with such failures).  That cycle produces worry, grief and uneasiness.

Here is a little gem about what it really means to be calm.  When we become aware of the fact that when we start with our thoughts which produce feelings and those feelings propel us into action that ultimately produce results, then we can rest assured that the external forces do not control us.  That is a calming in itself!

I’ll leave this post with one last thought.  When one becomes self-aware and understands one’s own ability to create and generate creative ideas,  then one will CALMLY give energy to what one wants. And, as Ralph Waldo Emerson said: ” The only thing that can grow is the thing you give energy to.”

A Lesson in Inspiration

Featured

I have been waiting for a flower bud to bloom for a week….. It’s been raining a lot here and virtually no sun.

Naturally, the grass had grown uncontrollably and the weeds were a plenty! So all week I was bothered by the fact that I had not had the time to get to see what became of the flower bud as I was preoccupied by the grass and the weeds!

After a thorough mowing and weed-picking I was drained but I managed
to squeeze in a few minutes watching that bud bloom into a flower literally before my eyes. It was amazing.

I couldn’t help but to think about life
As we all go through it and how this little everyday experience is profoundly similar to our daily battles.

Stay with me……

We go through our days sometimes doing things that we don’t like to do, or have to do, many things that we think are vital to our survival and problems that we need to “weed out”.

We put ALL of our energy into, we feed & water those things because what we think about and put our energy into, in a way, tendszt to grow. We forget and push aside the beautiful, positive things ( positive thoughts) that we truly care for and are passionate about. We either don’t see or they fail to bloom in front of our eyes.

Somethings, some ideas, bloom when time and conditions are right. Sometimes there are many ideas, many little buds and maybe one of them blooms and the other ones remain simply because………. You can fill in the blank!

If you need inspiration look at the bud and the flower I admired today:

From Inspiration to Result

Featured

It is amazing to see how the process of inspiration, like a lightning bolt hitting you, plus hard work and focus on that inspiration produces results.

With the lightning bolt inspiration you have to make a choice:

1. Stand there and take no action. The result is: Getting burnt!

2. Take Action and channel and apply it and turn it onto a positive Track.

My personal example is about an incident that was so simple that we take it for granted. My son lost his balloon because he let go of the string. And that ate at him for a while, he was sad, angry even ashamed. That stuck with me. And days later on a long drive back in the cold snow covered roads I was hit with that lightning.

Once I arrived home…That same night….. I sat down and wrote a children’s book in 1 hour. I was thinking about my son. Also, my mind was fixed on the current events in the world. More importantly, I was feeling sick of how we always forget about many little things that may seem trivial but we take them for granted. So the words just started to flow! It did not matter if they were grammatically correct… it was 1 hour filled with inspiration and I fueled it with the music that used to inspire me when I was in College drawing sketches in my drawing class!

But, the words on paper were only half of the story. I had actually seen the characters and envisioned the book, the final result in my head that night. The actual physical book along with all the characters were clear as crystal in my mind.

I drew the illustrations within 3 days. The scanning, coloring took another 3 days but I hit a major wall. Yes, the wall I had talked about in my other posts. It took me almost 3 and a half months to figure out the publishing, the correct formatting and all things involved in getting in my little Boy’s hand to read it! I must have submitted it close to 15 times and every time rejected!

Rejection ;( ……..not great, but here was another opportunity to really use the same principle of sacrifice! And when I used it……results started to flourish!

Suddenly, it dawned on me that I had to actually learn something new and approach it from a completely different angle. And I did. then one morning after submitting the final proof with a little hope of approval….. I got the news. It was accepted.

The moral of this little anecdote is:

Don’t give up

because if your passion is strong about something and it is positive the world and YOU will find a way to get over the wall or the wall just disappears!

So the book is here and my little boy wants to read it every night and that means the world to ME. I am proud of it because it is from the heart and i touches his heart. I hope anyone who reads it will feel the same. And, if it does not, I will be happy that it may warm the heart of one or two people, hopefully in a positive way.

As I published the book, The Boy and the Red Balloon, I was also thinking of what I could do to help others so I am honored to donate 10% of the proceeds from the book to two charities that are near and dear to my heart,

1. Make a Wish foundation
2. Autism Speaks

It makes me and others who will read this book that it directly contributes and it may even grant a wish to a child in need or aid in healing another.

This is for those who have a dream.

Let Your Idea Grow, Be Patient!

Featured

In this world there are two forms in every kind or one that does both.

But there is always a an IDEA or a seed(requires a planter) and then its manifestation or physical evidence (requires a groomer).

Every seed has an incubation period but it needs fertile ground or surroundings to mature and grow. An idea is chosen by exposing oneself to positive surroundings. So plant a NEW, original and prosperous IDEA, create it in your mind. Then, follow through with intensity because the greater with intensity of seeking the sooner it comes.

So, how do we Increase the intensity? First, we focus our efforts and thoughts–laser sharp. Then, the degree of our Faith(not necessarily limited to only the religious kind) and belief in our thought, the more profound the intensity will be.

The hardest part is the belief. That is possible through: 1. learning constantly and 2. sticking with it. Both of them are in our control! Pretty much, being open to the idea that an IDEA will work opens the flood gates. But you just can’t sit back and watch, you have to ACT once the opportunity simply presents itself. When is that? How do you know when is the right time to ACT?

You will know…. Just as we know that every morning the sun comes up.

Someone said once, quite wisely, “If you come out of your box at midnight or noon it won’t matter , the sun will shine on you in TIME. When it is its time to shine!” It is in nature! :)

As we dream of becoming the best we can be we are actually going toward it, but with negative self-talk we begin to sabotage our own progress so trust the :

GESTATION period of an IDEA is SET. It will bear fruit in its own proper time!

Our ideas will never come FASTER than the period of time they take to mature. So think so BIG, HUGE, ENORMOUS that it scares you. Because if you can think it, you can do it!

Here is a wonderful quote: “Make no small plans for they have not the magic to stir men’s souls”

Trust the world around you and not so much the specific expectation of a person or people. The right people are brought to you by the belief in your thoughts, that planted seed!

Don’t limit your results by deciding how long something should take. Just KNOW that it WILL come! I have to admit I was so intense about one IDEA that I had set a time limit for it to bear fruit and when the “deadline” came and went and no fruit…. I was thoroughly disappointed…… I will tell you in my next blog post how I got through that disappointment and finally the result I had envisioned came true! This is actually an exercise in itself! :)

This is just tip of the iceberg, there are many ways we can accomplish this. Through STUDY and LEARNING.

It’s a Matter of Choice

Featured

I had posted this on my Facebook Notes a while back but I figured it would be worth sharing on the blog as well! So, here it goes

Have you ever wondered why sometimes you feel down? no matter what you just can not get out of that spiral? No matter the reason you have three choices:

1. Let it spiral you down

2. Stay there (like a frozen computer)

3. CHOOSE to feel different, better……you ask, how can can I do #3?

Do something that in the past made you feel uplifted, (music, exercise, call a friend, take a bath, READ a book{personally the best}) but in short get in harmony with what truly makes you feel good ( and no I am not advocating eating a 1/2 gallon of Ben and Jerrys!) When you are in harmony, you will lift yourself out by yourself and you will affect others around you as well…..do me favor..NO, do yourself a favor: just try it!

I know there are many who suffer from many problems(physical, psychological, etc.) and I know that there are many who may not have cures for those but all it takes is effort to feel better and enjoy TODAY…tomorrow’s battles are left to be fought tomorrow! :)

And also there are also other ways to relax and help take a load off.

7 Steps to Beat Fear and Anxiety

Featured

How do we break the power that fear and anxiety have over us? Here are 7 quick steps:

1. Know that it is ok to feel the fear because it might give us warning of what to prepare for, afterall we do have a fight or flight response we do need to protect ourselves from dangers but unnecessary, self-imposed fear is another subject! But it is OK to feel that fear, let’s you know you’re human!

2. Tell yourself all the great reasons you need to break free from it. AND, Write on paper because it makes it real and now you have something to focus your attention on!

3. Visualize the positive outcome even though it’s not done yet! YES, it sounds hokey but trust me on this. The next point drives it home!

4. Know that no matter what happens, you are no better or worse off than when you started. Pretty self-explanatory, right?

5 . Don’t just hang, take the action preferably towards that positive outcome you just visualized. The worst thing to do is to sit there and replay the actual fear in your heads instead of doing something about it!

6. When it is over, no matter what the outcome -give yourself a pat on the back. Doing something is much more productive than spiraling downwards and feeling bad that you didn’t do anything! So congratulate yourself, why not!

7. If you know you must get what you want, Change your approach until you do get it. Don’t give up!

I personally would avoid medications and try to rationally deal with problems as much as possible. There is an option to beat anxiety and fear.

Beat anxiety attacks and fear

But, there are times when talking to others and seeking professional help is necessary!  As someone really close to me said once, we are our own healers, we just need to listen to ourselves more often!

Keys to Success with a Little Help

Featured

I recently saw a video by Tony Robbins (yes, the infamous Tony Robbins–the man who does not like to be labeled “motivational speaker”) and what he said struck a chord with me. So here are the keys to success(with a little help from Mr. Robbins for his wonderful insights and energy)

1. Feed and Control your Mind. In essence what we feed our minds tends to manifest before us, if it is fear we will experience it every step of the way, if it is bliss and happiness, it shall be so! How to do this? Read, engage in an activity that motivates you in a positive direction….and no watching TV does not really count because it is predigested information. READ! And repeat what you have read and leaned to yourself!

2. Feed and Strengthen your Body. Let’s face it: mind and body are connected, I know it sounds trite but it’s true! If your body is weak and uninspired and unmotivated, then your mind can not accomplish all the positive ideas and thoughts! Start with something, anything that makes your muscle move and your heart pump. Your heart, literally needs to feel alive again! put your shoes on and walk a little, then run……run human run!

3. Find a Role Model that Inspires you. Whether it is someone you look up to and want to emulate or if it is someone who has had it so bad and made it through that you’d think if you are thankful that you are not in his or her situation. Learn about what they did to get to where they are now.

4. Take MASSIVE Action. Do something, start somewhere instead of spending your time just planning for the perfect conditions. As you start to create, then you will figure out the way…. opportunities and roads open up in front of you. progress and creation= happiness. Your intuition will guide you through as long as you have the first three steps locked in! But the magic happens in the final step…

5. Feed your Spirit. Be grateful for what you have in life and in return give something to ones who are not fortunate. This is not just once a year for thanksgiving, it’s as many much as you can.

I do want to again credit Mr. Robbins with this inspiration. although I have been talking about these steps here and there in my previous posts, I think he sums it up nicely.

Flourish if and when Nourished

Featured

Sometimes, inspiration can come from most unlike places. Last week, after below freezing temperatures, I was about to take out the dead flowers in the pots. This week, much to my surprise, the temps rose again and little purple flowers

Flourish IF and WHEN Nourished

Flourish IF and WHEN Nourished

started to bloom once more. That’s a testament to perseverance…even though a seed, a thought, may seem dead and lost–it will flourish IF and WHEN it is nourished.

A Mental Exercise in Positivity

Featured

I always wonder about forces in nature. There are polar opposite forces at play in everything we see and experience physically. Let’s face it: there are forces that keep life going and once the machinery in our bodies stops:…… Yes,  the obvious occurs.

The apple falls from the tree branch on top of Sir Issac Newton’s head…His head breaks the force of gravity, aside from the obvious PAIN he experiences but as  a consequence he discovers the law of gravity… a surprising positive in light of a negative.

So, what is the point of this little mental exercise? In every occurrence in life, and I am taking about the abstract stuff not specifically the physical manifestations, like the loss of a loved one or getting laid off, maybe addition of a new member to the family or acceptance to a prestigious college…take your pick; There exists an opposite of the same degree or force.  The occurrence itself is not as important as it is relative to something else that makes us judge the situation. The flip side of each life experience is always worth exploring and even embracing!

We know that life has its ups and downs. And there are times when we are tested, and tested , and tested some more.  When something is so bad that we can not bear to even think about it, here within it we WILL find something EQUALLY good. OPPOSITE and EQUAL. We need to look for it, though.

That is the challenge

And it gets better when we exercise that mental muscle……

Give it try.  Start with the most trivial things first!  Trust me, the next time you had to stop at that red light and you were in a hurry to get somewhere,

THINK

about the extra 3 minutes that you have to wait and what that would have given you if you were ahead!  Maybe, something not so pleasant could have happened ahead of you and you stopping at that light saved your life?  I know, I am using an extreme example, but try it.

Would you share about your experiences?

Success in anything in part depends on this principle. This mental exercise!

Conception to Fruition Non-linearly!

Featured

Today I am a little bit off the normal subjects I write about but I still think there is a connection.  I am never the type to have linear thought process.  In fact,  I am against it! World comes at us from many directions, in a chaotic whirlwind fashion. So why do we have to look at things and write in a manner that is in the exact opposite way the nature is intended to be…….Now, before you go on and say that I am full of you-know-what hear me out.

I have been studying my young kids patterns and behaviors for the past 4 1/2 years.  Also have been studying their learning patterns too.  From the time they were conceived they process was not linear( in fact, when we look at the moment of conception there are millions of sperms trying to to enter the egg but they are not all lined up in  queue…quite the contrary, they are surrounding the eggs from every possible angle X, Y and Z axes(to get nerdy on you!) but once that conception occurs it is a beautiful thing! Side note: I don’t take that process very lightly and I know that there are many people who struggle with that(i.e infertility) as many of us take it for granted. But there is help out there for the frustrated parents-wannabees! back on track now,  Try following a 1 and 1/2 year old for 10 minutes! do you think there is a pattern? He/she picks up a toy here, within 20 seconds it’s off to the drawers and everything is out in less than 10 seconds…then off to the kitchen and all the utensils are on the floor, 5 seconds later there is temper tantrum over nothing…shall I go on???? Maybe, a pattern of Chaos!!! But, the THOUGHT process for the child is the key: it wants to learn but not in a linear way!!! But, again it is a beautiful thing because at the end what matters the most is this:

Someone learned something whether it was from trial and error or if it was the pain of being unable to conceive and trying again or if it was the first words that were uttered by the little Tasmanian Devil!

The commonality in all this is that all of these experiences start with a seed, really a THOUGHT and once they are nourished properly then the flower.

Sometimes all the right things are there but nothing seems to come to fruition.  Our tendency is to become frustrated and throw in the towel but keeping steadfast to the dream, the THOUGHT(with all parties involved and in SYNERGY) the right things will appear. I’ll say it again, with ALL parties involved and on board! That’s when patience and  a little gratitude will go a long way.  I am reminded of a simple concept:

If you plant a seed in the soil in the spring and water it and allow the sun to nourish it, you will most likely have a growing bud by the summer!

If you plant that same seed in late fall, water it, give it the light that it needs, it won’t bud in the winter…… but come early spring it might!

All in due time!

Again, a little patience and gratitude will go a long way and keeping steady on course with the original thought!

See? non-linear thing isn’t so bad after all! From conception to fruition it may take many twists and turns but it will make it after all!

What is True Happiness?

Featured

Well, I’m going to use a quote from William Dempster Hoard:

” Happiness doesn’t depend on what we have, but it does depend on how we feel toward what we have. we can be happy with little and miserable with much.”

I suppose I can sit here and debate merits of wealth and how some rather “wealthy” people met such unfortunate unhappy endings but that would a gross over generalization. Instead, I will illustrate a very important point by posing  two questions:

Do we truly believe that we deserve to be happy?

Do we truly believe that we deserve to be wealthy?

Most people associate wealth with money, material things (although, it is true that those material things do make life  a little easier)but……the truth of the matter is that in our own thoughts do we feel good about accomplishing something that in turn makes us Happy? And as a result of that makes us wealthy?  or are we entrapped within guilt and shame associated with those few bad examples of the corrupt few?

My point is:  it boils down to a mental barrier (the WALL) we put upon ourselves.  It is truly our thoughts within us that prevent us from accomplishing true happiness! And Wealth along with it… hey that’s added bonus!

I will in later posts use a concept I learned from materials I learned from someone with a first hand experience with these challenges to help shed some light on this!

To your success and health, as always

Inherent Ability or Application?

Featured

How is it that some people learn things so quickly and others have to struggle….

Have you tried to read a book or an article to find yourself being distracted by something and then you are back at the beginning, rereading the same paragraph for the 5th time!?

Is it because one person is more of a “genius” than the next? Are some people inherently smarter than others or is in application of one’s abilities?

I welcome your thoughts and insights on the subject!

I have my own ideas but I will wait to share them with you later! :)

Are You a By-Product of External Forces? or Not?

Featured

For the longest time I thought that my life was controlled by external forces such as economy, geographic limitations, financial limitations, language, family issues….shall I go on with this list?  On my last birthday I had an epiphany.  I started learning and searching and reading in more depth than I had ever done before. I suddenly started to see things through a different lens:

My own

I figured out that everything that has happened to me is due to a series of thoughts and actions I personally took, or actually in many cases ACTIONS that I did not take!  I had let many things in my life be decided for me and I LET them happen. I had been faced with a challenge (the WALL) and I chose the safe,  the easy way. I allowed myself to fall back to my comfort zone  and until that moment of realization I had my future decided and defined.

What did I realize?  Well, very simply that I had relinquished my ability to control my future by allowing my thoughts to be aligned with my surroundings, the people around me……. and many of those influences were not the right ones for me.  I am not saying they were right or wrong as if I am passing judgment on them, no.. not at all.  They were just not right for me.  But at that time I did not even know clearly what and who I wanted to be, or I had allowed other influences and people define who I needed to be!   The epiphany was profound, the realization was extremely life changing.

I had all these years been a victim of my own inability to take responsibility to be who I wanted to be!!!

Say that ten times in a row! Such a convoluted web that was!

How to get out of it?

In short:

1. Plant the idea of being exactly who you envision yourself to be….

2. Feed that seed with positive thoughts despite evidence to the contrary(i.e. break through the wall)

3. Take action on those positive thoughts

4. Ramp it up with elements around you(people, circumstances) that resonate with you! That’s Synergy!

There are so many example that one can use in one’s own life. If any of the ideas above struck a chord with you,  I encourage you to write about them.  Send  us your comments, feel free to share your experiences with us.  Through synergy we all learn too!

Until next time,

Wishing success for you all,

How do you deal with a challenge in your life?

Featured

In all aspects of our lives we are faced with roadblocks. We hit a wall, a challenge. In doing so, we have three choices:

1.  Back away, go back to the way things were so we don’t have to manage the fact that there is a wall there! MOST of us do this! It is the easiest thing to do and we are “happy” going back to our comfort zone.

2. Freeze at the wall! As funny as that sounds, SOME of us do this. We just hang.  indecision-city! Like a computer that has to handle too many commands and it literally freezes!

3. Break through the wall! Truthfully, only a FEW of us actually do this.  On the other side we see the reward!

Why does this happen? what’s the solution?  I will shed more light on that in my future posts!

This quote by Bob Proctor below should give some insight:

“Refuse to let your present results influence your thinking. Keep reminding yourself that you have a power within you that is superior to any condition or circumstance you may encounter enroute to your goal.”

I know that this is pretty vague but I will shed more light on this soon.

Just remember that with positive thoughts, working in synergy with everything and everyone around us and most importantly taking action we ensure success, happiness and yes……wealth(in every sense of the word)!

Until next time,

Actions in a Positive Direction

Featured

I envision something, maybe a premonition about a movement where actions towards one another in a positive direction boomerang…..This will be the new social media, the new social and universal proof that good always expands despite the illusion to the contrary! As a natural by-product of this we all benefit, we become WEALTHY in every sense of the word!

Synergy

Featured

Throughout history we have seen conflicts and war.  We’ve also seen spirit of cooperation to further the human spirit.  It is now time again to embrace this idea.  Whether it is in politics, in economics or in close human relations….it is imperative that we move toward each other.  All of our actions have consequences. Good or bad, they do!  So today I think of synergy.  Of working together!

Fathers’ Day

Becoming a father has taught me a few lessons. It’s a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week job for those of us who embrace it.

Here are a few of them,

You Fail at it everyday, you win at it everyday but you Feel your child’s pain as well as the joy.

You are never Above anyone else, especially your partner and your child–you guide and lead when you have to but you are not Above them.

You have to have and search for the Answers to the easiest questions (even if they are asked a thousand times in a day) or the toughest ones that you may not have any– where you may have to do some serious soul-searching and may never find your own answers.

You Take your child on a journey of learning every moment that you have with them and soon you realize that you have been Taken on a much more meaningful journey by them. You learn your child’s language, fantasies and ability to find solutions.

When life does not  pan out the way you had envisioned, You never Take advantage of the relationship or use your child to benefit yourself. NEVER!  In fact, you are There for your child, rain or shine, you are there…. your work does not matter.

Your Epiphany comes to you in a dream or a day-dream when you least expect it……. it is this,

The best investment is not reflected in what you have, or how much you’ve made but

the Time you spent,

not the Time you wished you had spent with your child.

Nothing will ever recapture that Time.

It passes regardless of your choices.

You Help your partner and your child even if you don’t believe in what they are doing. Because it is not about you but about what makes them Happy– that act alone comes from the Heart. Each father has a Heart and he shows his love differently, not so much with words but with actions.

You lend an Ear to the complaints, to the tantrums, to the cries of pain or the expression of Elation, the celebration of successes even the sound of the calm breaths while your child sleeps. You use you Eyes and see a mirror in your child’s Eyes, in front of you, keeping your Emotions and actions in check.
At first, you Read life to your child. Then, you Read life with you child and at last your child Reads about life to you. You Review your life every night. Rewind to see where you thought that you had taught a lesson yet you Realize that you were taught one…. or two… or three. And at the end you Remember that it was all worth it because as a result of a decision, a union, you have become a better human being.

Happy Fathers’ day as well as Mothers’ day (especially those single mothers who had to also be fathers to their children)
